Pro­cee­ding with pas­si­on, per­sis­tence and perspectives

On the occa­si­on of Inter­na­tio­nal Women’s Day we cele­bra­te fema­le sci­en­tists with a film scree­ning and two panel dis­cus­sions. We invi­te you to get to know both Aus­tri­an and Cana­di­an sci­en­tists and explo­re with us chal­lenges women face on their way to suc­cess. Spe­cial guest Hon. Kirs­ty Dun­can, for­mer Cana­di­an Minis­ter of Science.
With this event we want to rai­se awa­re­ness of the on-going trans­for­ma­ti­on of sci­en­ti­fic work envi­ron­ments across gen­der and exami­ne the oppor­tu­ni­ties young fema­le sci­en­tists have today.

Film screening ‚Ms. Scientist‘ by Brandy Yanchyk: March 7–14 2021, stream (45min, Canada, 2018)

„Around the world the fields of sci­en­ti­fic rese­arch and deve­lo­p­ment remain a male-domi­na­ted envi­ron­ment. Accor­ding to the UNESCO Insti­tu­te for Sta­tis­tics less than thir­ty per­cent of the world’s rese­ar­chers are women. Many women enter a care­er in sci­ence but lea­ve becau­se of road­blocks and chal­lenges. Cana­da wants to chan­ge that.

Bran­dy Yanchyk’s docu­men­ta­ry Ms Sci­en­tist explo­res how Cana­da is try­ing to get fema­le sci­en­tists to stay in the fields of sci­ence and pro­gress to the top. Ms Sci­en­tist looks at the suc­ces­ses and chal­lenges that Canada’s fema­le sci­en­tists face.
